This was the third year in a row that we have taken the boys on a family camping trip, and this year we went as a family of 6! Their anticipation for it all week was priceless as their favorite camping past time is to play in the tent. And Kayce requested that this year we play Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf. Him, Conor, and myself as the three little pigs, and Daddy as the Big Bad Wolf :)
We went for one night to the Indiana Dunes over Labor Day weekend. The twins did surprisingly well. They got a little fussy during smores making time, but that was after being cooped up in their car seats for the better part of the day. They even slept past 7am!
Kayce and Conor had a ton of fun burying their cars and dinosaurs in the dirt and then trying to find them, making and eating their smores, and rough housing in the tent. And we even got in a game of the Three Little Pigs.
As we sat by the fire at night, Justin and I did comment on the fact that camping was no longer the relaxing and calming activity as it once was. But as chaotic it was trying to get all set up, dinner made, keeping kids away from fire, keeping the twins fed and happy and bug free, keeping Conor accident free, and making sure at the same time that everyone was having fun; it was worth every minute of it! Watching the boys enjoying themselves as much as they did is exactly the reason we still do things like this!
Can’t wait to see if next year will be easier or harder having the twins walking around and into everything by then….
